Member Spotlight: Tatiana Diaz

Originally from the Bronx, New York, Tatiana Diaz has called the Capital Region home for nearly 15 years. Her deep appreciation for the City of Albany drives her passion for showcasing it as an exceptional place to live and work. Tatiana holds an associate degree in Public Administration from Hudson Valley Community College, where she graduated with honors. Currently serving as the Director of Human Resources and Secretary to the City of Albany Municipal Civil Service Commission, Tatiana has dedicated her career to advancing public service through effective human resources management.

Tatiana’s journey with the City of Albany began in 2015 when she joined as an Information Clerk I in the Department of General Services. Her interest in civil service was ignited in 2017 when she transitioned to the Human Resources Office as a Staff Assistant focused on civil service matters. This role sparked a lasting passion for the merit system, leading her to further her career in public-sector human resources. After a brief tenure at a private bank, she returned to the City of Albany, eventually rising through the ranks to her current position. Her roles have included Senior Civil Service Administrator, Human Resources Generalist III, Human Resources Manager, and now Director of Human Resources.

Her expertise encompasses Human Resources Management, Civil Service Administration, Benefits Administration, Public Sector Labor Relations, Compliance, Recruitment and Hiring, and Project Management. Her multicultural background enhances her ability to perform her duties from an inclusive perspective, promoting equitable outcomes for those she serves.

Under Tatiana’s leadership, the City of Albany has undergone significant transformation. She has been instrumental in implementing eGov, an online service administration system; updating the City’s decade-old policy and procedure manual; implementing pay grades for non-union positions; and introducing an orientation program for new employees. Her recent efforts include launching the “Join Albany” digital recruitment campaign, which has resulted in a substantial increase in job applications and a significant reduction in vacancies. Additionally, Tatiana’s monthly civil service workshops have provided invaluable support and resources to the community, demystifying the hiring process and enhancing visibility for the City’s offerings.

Tatiana’s dedication to public service is evident in her successful navigation of leadership transitions, her commitment to diversity hiring, and her role as the City’s go-to expert on HR and civil service matters. Looking ahead, Tatiana aspires to contribute her talents to civil service reform and innovation and hopes to continue making a lasting impact on the City of Albany.

Outside of her professional achievements, Tatiana cherishes spending time with her young daughter, JaeAna, who brings joy and inspiration to her life!
