Christine Segrue is a dedicated civil service professional who has spent her entire life in the Binghamton area. With a strong educational background in business administration and human services, Christine has built a career centered on public service, leadership, and innovation in the civil service system.
Christine began her journey with the Broome County Personnel Department in 2008 as a Personnel Associate Trainee. Over the years, she progressed through various roles, gaining invaluable experience in civil service administration and employee benefits. In 2016, she was promoted to Senior Personnel Associate, where she took on the responsibility of overseeing the benefits division while maintaining involvement in civil service and personnel transactions. Her leadership and expertise led to her appointment as Deputy Personnel Officer in February 2021, and later that same year, she was officially appointed as Personnel Officer in November 2021.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Christine is actively involved in her local community. She currently serves on the En-Joie Golf Course Advisory Committee, demonstrating her dedication to community engagement and development.
One of the most valuable skills Christine has developed throughout her career is the ability to think outside the box. In her role as Personnel Officer, she frequently faces challenges that require creative problem-solving within the confines of civil service regulations. Her ability to evaluate situations and find effective solutions has made her an asset to Broome County’s workforce.
Christine encourages those new to civil service not to feel intimidated. She acknowledges that the system can seem overwhelming at first, but by keeping an open mind and utilizing available resources, it becomes a manageable and rewarding field.
If Christine could implement one major change in the civil service system, it would be to modernize the exam process. She believes that making exams more accessible, eliminating unnecessary exams for positions requiring professional certifications, and updating exam content to be more relevant would improve the system. Additionally, she advocates for an online testing platform where candidates could take exams and receive results on the same day, streamlining the hiring process.
When she’s not working, Christine enjoys spending time outdoors. She is an avid camper and golfer and loves visiting local breweries to explore different craft beers.
Christine Segrue’s dedication to public service and her forward-thinking approach to civil service improvement make her a true leader in her field. We appreciate her contributions and look forward to seeing how she continues to make a difference in Broome County!
