Diann Ferris—a dedicated HR professional, committed community member, and proud mom—whose career spans over two decades in the human resources field. Currently serving as the Human Resources Administrator for Cayuga County, Diann brings experience, creativity, and heart to everything she does.
A lifelong learner and multitasker, Diann earned her master’s degree the same year her daughter graduated with her bachelor’s—an achievement that highlights her drive and commitment to growth. She also holds a SHRM-CP certification and played a key role in establishing “Cayuga Gold,” the County’s employee recognition program, in collaboration with the Operations Officer and IT Director.
Prior to joining Cayuga County 3.5 years ago, Diann spent 18 years in HR at Le Moyne College. Her current role includes overseeing the day-to-day operations of both the Human Resources and Civil Service Offices. She’s also a proud graduate of the Civil Service Institute, where she expanded her knowledge of civil service operations.
Diann’s path has been shaped not only by professional development, but also by her belief in the power of listening and thinking outside the box. “There’s never just one answer that works for everyone,” she says. “Helping others often requires creativity and compassion.”
She’s been active in the Central New York Society for Human Resource Management (CNY SHRM), and in the past, contributed her time and leadership as a board member for WOYSA and L’Arche, as well as a troop leader for the NYPENN Girl Scouts.
Her advice for those new to civil service? “Be patient and open to learning. Ask questions—especially through the NYSAPCSO listserv. There’s a wealth of information out there, and it’s okay not to have all the answers.”
When asked what improvement she’d like to see in the civil service system, Diann highlights the need for quicker turnaround in exam grading and the ability to offer exams online with immediate results—modern solutions that could greatly enhance the process.
Outside of work, Diann enjoys hitting the slopes for some snow skiing, camping in the great outdoors, sewing, and baking. She shares her home life with her husband Don (married 34 years), their two children—Nolan (and his wife Kristen) and Lauren—and their beloved dog, Tater.
Whether she’s advocating for employee recognition or stitching together a homemade gift, Diann Ferris brings care, ingenuity, and dedication to everything she does. We’re proud to spotlight her as an integral member of our association!
