The Rockland County Department of Personnel has been at the forefront of innovative recruitment strategies, setting a strong example for how local government can engage communities, inspire young people, and connect job seekers with meaningful public service careers. With a focus on accessibility, collaboration, and inclusion, Rockland has strengthened its outreach across more than 10,000 county, municipal, and school positions.
Expanding Awareness Through Lead Initiatives
Rockland has taken a proactive approach to promoting civil service opportunities across the region. Seasonal Fall and Spring Meet-and-Greet Events created space for residents from the tri-state area to learn about careers in public service and gain insight into the civil service system.
The department also partnered with Rockland Works to deliver Civil Service 101 Trainings, providing job seekers with the tools to navigate exams, applications, and the hiring process with confidence.
Recognizing the importance of engaging the next generation, Rockland staff have delivered classroom presentations in multiple school districts, as well as shared customized resources with counselors and educators to guide students toward fulfilling careers in government.
Community connections have also been a priority, with partnerships spanning the Indian Cultural Society, JCC Rockland, Literacy Solutions, JAMCCAR, and the Spring Valley NAACP Youth Council. These collaborations ensure that civil service career pathways are reaching diverse populations across the county.

Building Partnerships That Inspire
Rockland County’s recruitment efforts extend far beyond the office. By participating in the T.E.E.N. Works Program through the Rockland County Youth Bureau, the department has supported youth development workshops that encourage leadership and workforce readiness.
At large community events like YouthFest, staff have promoted the benefits of government careers to families and young adults. In addition, attending Naturalization Ceremonies has allowed the department to connect with new citizens, welcoming them into the community and sharing opportunities to serve through local government roles.

Collaboration and Digital Innovation
Rockland’s long-standing collaboration with Rockland Works continues to support job seekers through resume-building assistance, career coaching, and application guidance.
The department has also embraced digital outreach to ensure job opportunities are accessible to all. With a growing presence on Instagram and Facebook under @RocklandCountyJobs, a redesigned website featuring categorized job listings by education, skill set, and area of interest, and the implementation of QR codes for quick access to job postings and online applications, Rockland has made exploring public sector careers easier than ever before.
Through its commitment to outreach, partnerships, and technology, the Rockland County Department of Personnel is redefining how local government can connect with its community. By meeting people where they are—whether in schools, community centers, or online—Rockland is opening doors to opportunity and inspiring the workforce of tomorrow.
Rockland County: Leading with purpose, connecting with community, and building the future of public service.
