NYSAPCSO Search Engines
The New York State Association of Personnel and Civil Service Officers has a custom Google search engines that can access numerous field areas of interest from most of the municipal New York State Civil Service agencies.
Most municipal New York State Civil Service agencies post their information online. These search engines helps you find what related items within seconds. It is important to note that not every agency is included in these search engines as some may not have their information posted online or their agency’s website backend database is not compatible with the custom search engine. Please reach out to NYSAPCSO with any inquiries.
Within the given search engine, you must enter appropriate key words (i.e. Clerk, FOIL, Background Check, etc.) in the top left hand corner to ensure that you see all possible matches.

Civil Service
Council for Higher Education Accreditation – This database can be used to search for accredited colleges, universities, and programs within directories for institutions, programs and accreditors.
Diploma Mills and Accreditation – The United States Department of Education’s general resource page where one can obtain more information on basic understanding of accreditation in the United States and how it works, the difference between accredited or unaccredited institutions, and the pitfalls of enrolling in a “diploma mill.”
Evaluation of Foreign Degrees – New York State Department of Civil Service provides a listing of current National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) providers that would evaluate foreign education to United States standards.
Foreign Medical School Accreditation – The National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA)’s website. The Committee is authorized to evaluate the standards of accreditation applied to foreign medical schools, and to determine the comparability of those standards to standards applied to medical schools in the United States.

New York State Constitution (Civil Service) – Reference to the language with the New York State Constitution regarding appointments and promotions within the public service.
New York State Glossary of Titles – New York State has an inquiry tool that allows New York State employees to learn more about job titles within the State.
New York State Laws – A free public database containing all the laws of State of New York. Search for keywords to populate all the laws associated with it.
New York State Office of Professions – Verification Search – The New York State Department of Education has a database for professional license verification.
New York State Records Retention Schedule – The New York State Archives Division, under the Department of Education, website contains the a general retention and disposition schedule that provides authorizations for state agencies to dispose of common administrative records following a minimum retention period.
O*Net – Compare the work activities and full performance knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal characteristics of any new job specification being developing to the O*NET equivalent to make sure all-important elements are included.
New York State Department of State – Division of Licensing Services – This site contains an online professional licensing database that one can search for active licenses within the State.
United Stated Department of Education’s Office of Postsecondary Education – This database contains accredited postsecondary institutions and programs reported directly to the Office of Postsecondary Education (OPE) by recognized accrediting agencies and state approval agencies.

New York State and Local Retirement System – The New York State Office of the State Comptroller’s website containing information and online benefits for those enrolled the New York State and Local Retirement System.
New York State Association of Counties – This association represents counties with New York State and communicates the needs and recommendations of county officials to State lawmakers.
New York State Comptroller’s Office (Local Government Publications) – The New York State Office of the State Comptroller has a host of resources around several fiscal areas (Budgeting, Capital Projects, Payroll/Employee Benefits, and more!)
New York State Committee on Open Government (FOIL) – The Committee on Open Government oversees and advises the government, public, and news media on Freedom of Information, Open Meetings, and Personal Privacy Protection Laws. The Committee offers guidance in response to phone inquiries, prepares written legal advisory opinions, and provides training to government and other interested groups.

Local Government Records Management Grants – The Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund (LGRMIF) provides grants to local governments. These grants assist local governments to establish records management programs or develop new program components. It is a competitive program, awarding grants based on the merits of applications.
