Danelle LaPann has dedicated over eight years to civil service, with her current role as Personnel Officer at Washington County for the past three years. Prior to her work in civil service, Danelle was involved in nonprofit work and fundraising, laying a foundation for her commitment to community service.
Beyond her professional responsibilities, Danelle is actively involved in her local community. She serves on two committees for the Argyle Improvement Association—the Fundraising Committee and the Sewer Committee—and is also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for her local fire department.
Among her many achievements, Danelle proudly highlights earning her Hang-gliding Pilot 1 License in the Outer Banks, NC. This experience speaks to her adventurous spirit and her pursuit of unique challenges outside the office.
When reflecting on her work, Danelle emphasizes that communication is key. She advises anyone new to civil service to be patient and trust their instincts, especially when it comes to researching and verifying information.
Outside of work, Danelle enjoys vacationing in various places and finds camping to be the perfect way to rest, relax, and renew. Her love for nature and exploration complements her busy professional life.
Looking ahead, if Danelle could implement any changes to the civil service system, she would advocate for more decentralized exams to improve the timeliness of grading. This reflects her ongoing commitment to improving efficiency and effectiveness in her field.
Danelle’s dedication to both her career and community, coupled with her adventurous spirit and passion for positive change, makes her a valued member of her organization and an inspiration to her peers.
