Member Spotlight: Lynn Murray

Lynn Murray, a dedicated and experienced professional who has spent her career excelling in human resources and making a positive impact on her community. With an Associate degree in Business Administration from SUNY Morrisville, Lynn began her journey in long-term care facilities as a Human Resources Associate shortly after graduating in 1999. Her expertise quickly earned her a promotion to Director of Human Resources, a role she would continue to embrace across several organizations. In May 2019, Lynn took on the role of Director of Human Resources and Secretary to the Civil Service Commission with the City of Norwich, where she continues to make a difference.

Beyond her HR career, Lynn served as the Town Justice in Pharsalia for 16 years, a position she thoroughly enjoyed and found highly rewarding. Her passion for serving her community extends beyond her professional life, as she is also a board member for Hospice Chenango County.

Lynn’s personal accomplishments are just as impressive. She successfully earned her Associate degree while raising four small children and later completed her Bachelor’s degree in 2017 while working full time. Her ability to balance personal and professional life showcases her dedication and drive.

Throughout her career, Lynn has gained invaluable skills in conflict resolution, employee relations, and communication—key attributes she finds essential to her success in HR. Her positive attitude and ability to remain neutral in resolving conflicts have been vital in her role. She credits her mentors, Katie from Oneonta and Jill from Broome County, for guiding her through the complexities of civil service rules and helping her navigate the system.

Outside of work, Lynn enjoys reading, hiking, and traveling with her daughter. She also cherishes her time on the small farm she shares with her husband, where they raise cattle, pigs, ducks, and geese, alongside their beloved dogs, Lilly and Molly, who keep her young at heart.

When asked about potential improvements to the civil service system, Lynn advocates for allowing more people to be eligible for appointments, believing this would enhance opportunities within the field.

Lynn’s journey is a testament to her resilience, dedication, and commitment to both her profession and her community.
